VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City will launch a campaign calling for locals to say no to five unseemly acts in public areas: no discarding rubbish other than in receptacles, no sitting, no public urinating, no swearing and no wearing inappropriate clothes.

The campaign is part of activities aimed at developing a ‘civilized’ HCM City in 2008, themed “The Year of Civilized Lifestyle” which will be launched on January 26 both in the city and 322 surrounding wards, communes and towns.

In 2008, HCM City will focus on strengthening a civilized lifestyle, beautifying the urban environment and emphasizing traffic safety to build a “safe, clean, beautiful and friendly” HCM City.

Accordingly, the city will decorate streets, tear down 10,000 slums in canals, call on locals to not discard of waste at public areas, build more public toilets, etc.

The HCM City People’s Committee has decided to set up a steering board to implement “The Year of Civilized Lifestyle”, led by Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thu Ha.

The city will ask the government’s permission to increase fines on violation of the aforementioned tenets at public sites.
