VietNamNet Bridge – Glasses bearing internationally famous brands such as Gucci, CK and Solec are being produced and sold for only a few thousand VND by Lich Dong villagers in Dong Cac Commune, Thai Binh Province.“If you buy wholesale, the price is VND20,000-30,000/pair. I have around 30-40 designs. You can easily sell them retail for VND100,000 – VND150,000 each,” said the owner of Hong Quang glasses shop in Lich Dong Village; the store a 40sq.m room full of sunglasses of various designs and colors bearing famous trademarks including Rayban, Gucci, CK and Solec.
Hong Quang is one of the many sunglass shops in Lich Dong, the only village in Vietnam producing counterfeits. Up to 90% of sunglasses sold in Vietnam come from this village.
Lich Dong villagers have produced glasses and locks for several decades. The villagers recently decided to make counterfeit glasses.
The villagers produce sunglasses as cheap as VND3,000/pair or as expensive as VND20 million/pair. Each day, thousands of glasses are distributed from Lich Dong to shops throughout Vietnam. Glasses shops owned by Lich Dong villagers are located everywhere.
The village currently has 2,000 families, half of which produce glasses. Some families import all kinds of eye-wear related materials, including eyesight measurers. Some families own several shops.
Lich Dong people mainly import frames and lenses from China which bear famous brands. The villagers are making counterfeit products but won’t admit it.
Nguyen Thanh Hong from the National Office for Intellectual Property said: “An item is counterfeit if someone doesn’t sign processing contracts with a foreign company, but still buys materials and making products using a firm’s brand name.”
According to the Ministry of Health, glasses shops are loosely managed and watched over since there is no agency testing quality and they can be opened easily without official licensing.
Around 10,000 glasses shops exist in Vietnam and up to 94% of the owners have no health-related expertise. At most, salesmen do the job of health workers, such as measuring eyesight and performing eye exams.
Why don’t Lich Dong villagers stick their own brands on their glasses? “If they use the insignias of famous foreign brands, their products will not be protected by law and they may be sued,” said the National Office for Intellectual Property’s Nguyen Thanh Hong.

Le Père Noël est une ordure et en plus il est stupide !
Au Vietnam,nous avons vu « Le Père Noël est une ordure » diffusé sur TV5monde.
Mais je dois dire que c’est la vérité : Je me croyais bien place sur son parcourt : Il commence sa tournée aux Philippines, puis recharge les cadeaux en Chine et arrive au Vietnam. Je m’attendais a des cadeaux « xin » ; mais il nous balance des mp3 Sony et des apple nano « dia phuong » = paysan en plus ces trucs la tombent en panne dans les premières heures d’utilisation.
Ne croyez pas que parce qu’il a la marque Sony ou le logo Apple dans le firmware que ceux–ci soient au courant de cette production !
Le mode d’emploi en anglais est en authentique chinglish : Il faut le retraduire de l’anglais en chinois puis en vietnamien et après en français pour comprendre :

Ma fille n’a pas réussi a prendre le Père Noël en photo bien qu’elle l’ai attendu jusqu’à 1 heure du mat’ mais l’année prochaine, c’est moi qui l’attendrais avec mon tromblon pour lui tirer des coups de fusil !

Je n’ai pas encore trouve le programme de conversion qui marche bien ! J’en ai deja 1 mais la taille de l’écran est trop petite.Un fichier possédant l’extension .AMV est un fichier vidéo compressé, créé par les constructeurs asiatiques de lecteurs MP3 portables, afin de les dotes de capacités multimédia sans avoir à payer de royalties pour un codec vidéo propriétaire. Et en plus, la boutique au coin de ma rue vend des iPod a 27 $ qui ont l’air bien mieux, et cet idiot de Père Noël a été acheter les nôtres a l’autre bout de la ville

Beauty contest runner-up suspected of forging documents to join
Truong Thi May (R) winning the runner-up title at the 2007 Miss Vietnamese Peoples pageant. She may have faked both her ethnicity and high school certificateA runner-up at the Miss Vietnamese Peoples beauty contest in Da Lat last week has been found to have faked her ethnicity and school certificate and authorities are calling for an investigation. Truong Thi May, 19, of Ho Chi Minh City took part claiming to be a Kh’mer ethnic and a man named Do Viet Hoai has lodged a complaint to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
Hoai said he had discovered that May was a Kinh and had faked her high school diploma – a prerequisite to take part in the pageant – when he was on the organizing committee of the 2007 Miss Vietnam Jewelry contest last November for which she had also applied.
May’s mother had asked him to help her fake a high school certificate but he had refused, Hoai said.
She had then told him that her daughter was a Kinh and not Kh’mer, he said.
Lacking the required documents, May had been disqualified from the Miss Vietnam Jewelry Contest, Hoai wrote in his complaint.
Thanh Nien went to Phu Nhuan District in HCMC, where May’s family resides, and saw official records showing May and her mother to be Kinh.
Organizers in Da Lat said according to May’s application for the pageant she had obtained her high school diploma from the HCMC Education Department in September 2006.
Further investigations would be carried out, authorities said.
