FTV party goes haywire
The chaotic scenes near the main stage on the F-Diamond cruise vessel which hosted the FTV New Year’s Eve party MondayThe French TV channel’s goodwill is obvious after it chose Vietnam for the New Year party rather than Singapore, its regular destination, but things didn’t quite pan out as it hoped. Beautiful women, fabulous clothes, and booze could not salvage the New Year’s Eve party onboard Fashion TV’s F-Diamond cruise ship Monday night.
A crush of people and sloppy organization meant the long-anticipated bash quickly descended into chaos.
The organizers had sold nearly 1,000 tickets at US$120 each – a cheap price in booming Vietnam.
With the vessel clearly designed to handle much fewer people, there was hardly any elbowroom for the guests.
Many complained loudly and left the party well before New Year arrived after having to wait in a long line at the buffet or finding there weren’t enough seats in the banquet area.
Women guests grumbled since they had to wait in another long queue to use the unisex restrooms.
The situation became messier when the main event, a fashion show featuring the 40 Miss FTV 2007 finalists, began and people stampeded to the main stage.
The stage was just 70 meters square and too small for the crowd.
Many people had to stand on chairs or climb on handrails to get a look at the models.
The women did not have a private backstage and had to stand among the audience while awaiting their turn on the catwalk.
Some men, by then sloshed on beer or cocktails or both, began to bicker after trying to elbowing each other out.
The guards had to work overtime to keep order as well as push aside people to make way for the contestants.
Some were rather rude as they shouted and pushed the audience.
“Hopeless! Totally hopeless!” a foreigner said, shaking his head and leaving the ship with his girlfriend.
He was not the only one.
FTV’s goodwill is clear after it chose Vietnam for the party rather than Singapore, its regular destination, and the channel will broadcast segments promoting Vietnamese tourism for a two-week period.
But bad planning and worse organization created a poor impression among both local and foreigner guests.
An FTV spokesperson, downplaying the chaotic scenes, said the event would be a boost to Vietnam’s tourism industry.

Des toilettes unisex sur le navire...Je suis choqué...
Ils ont quand même séparé les toilettes: un pour les hommes, un pour les femme!
